Back by popular demand, The Utilities Telecom Council will present for the second year in a row its special, half-day International Workshop the day before the opening of its Annual Conference – UTC TELECOM 2010.
The Workshop will be chaired by the Co–Chairs of UTC's International Division, Miguel Angel Sanchez–Fornie, Director de Telecommunicaciones y Sistems de Control, Iberdrola and Dymitr Wajsman, Director, APTEL and Dtech Technology. The program will feature presentations from experts Brazil, Canada and Europe. The workshop will explore technologies, strategies, business drivers, and industry wide issues.

Latin American Utility Telecom and Smart Grid Endeavors
Throughout Latin America, utilities and governments have embraced the need for mission critical radio communication networks and the value of building more intelligence into the grid. This session will provide an update on current smart utility activities and why now more than ever technology providers should consider working with Latin American utilities in this booming telecom market. Learn what local governments are doing to drive growth and create utility business opportunities and how Smart Grid technologie is leading the charge.

Telecom Solution for Transmission of RIO MADEIRA Power Plants Rio Madeira Power
When building new power plants there is a lot to keep in mind, but there is even more to plan for when the plans are separated by 140 km and are distant 2,400km from central region of Brazil (Sao Paulo State). Served by two High Voltage DC Lines of 600KV, the transmission will cross the jungle, many Indian reservations and unexplored regions creating even more challenges. Each line will have OPGW and telecom to make the build out complete. Presenters will discuss the entire project along with the difficulties of the installation of OPGW and Telecom equipment in such an environment.

European Utilities Telecom Market – Intelligent Communication
Expansion The European Commission and the regulatory agencies continue to promote competition, innovation and improved efficiency in the energy, telecommunications and environmental sectors. Changes being proposed currently in the regulatory regimes WILL influence the strategic and operational aspects of utility companies in these sectors. This session will feature a series of expert speakers who will delve into discussions around spectrum for utilities in Europe, Smart Grid case studies as well as an initiative to encourage close collaboration of the utilities and ICT vendors/service providers in identifying and implementing smartgrid solutions and applications – the EUTC’s Thematic Network initiative.

Canadian Utility Telecom – Innovation in Utility Telecom
Canadian utilities today are facing a storm of issues driving fundamental changes in the way they operate, interact with their customers, and plan for the future. Specifically, Canadian utilities are working on developing the spectrum allocation designed to support the growth of intelligent grid deployments, evaluating Tetra technology within the utility space and a dealing with a hot bed of MPLS activity. This session will take you inside the Canadian Utility Telecom market to provide a snapshot of what is driving the market forward.
